Oceanen is one of Gothenburg’s most influential cultural venues. My role spans from long-term brand and content strategy to hands-on design: visual identities, posters, digital assets, editorial content, and web design, as well as continuous development of Oceanen’s digital presence.

BRAND

Oceanen is a leading cultural venue in Gothenburg, known for its strong position within music, art, food, and culture since 1996. The brand operates in a fast-moving, high-volume cultural context, requiring a visual identity that is both flexible and instantly recognizable.

MISSION

As Communication Manager and designer, I act as the single source for Oceanen’s brand and communication. I am responsible for brand strategy, visual identity, graphic design, social media, website, campaigns, and daily communication.

My focus has been to build a cohesive visual system, strengthen brand recognition, and grow Oceanen’s audience organically. This work has resulted in significant follower growth, multiple viral posts, and a consistently strong and recognizable presence across all channels. I have also led PR and communication strategies for major milestones, including the launch of Oceanen’s restaurant Kulturköket.

INSIGHTS

A key challenge has been communicating a complex and constantly evolving cultural program without fragmenting the brand. This has required a flexible yet highly controlled visual and editorial system.

Over the past year, Oceanen has also been involved in a legal dispute, which has demanded a high level of sensitivity and strategic judgment in communication. A central part of this work has been owning the narrative — carefully shaping what is communicated, when, and how — while balancing legal constraints, brand integrity, and audience trust. This approach has ensured continuity, clarity, and credibility in Oceanen’s public voice during a highly sensitive period.

A core insight has been the importance of prioritizing recognition over individual assets. By building a system where Oceanen is immediately identifiable even without explicit branding, the communication has achieved strong audience recall, engagement, and sustained organic growth.
